Support & FAQ
Everything you need to know about using OK Vault—your zero-trust, zero-network password manager. Can't find what you're looking for? Contact us below.
Getting Started
- Download OK Vault from the App Store
- Launch the app and tap "Continue" on the onboarding screen
- Create a strong master password (write it down somewhere safe!)
- Confirm your master password
- Enable Face ID / Touch ID (recommended but optional)
- Start adding your credentials
Your master password cannot be recovered. If you forget it, your vault cannot be unlocked. This is by design—true security means we can't access your data even if we wanted to.
- Tap the + button at the top right
- Enter a title (e.g., "Gmail Account")
- Add username/email
- Add password or secure note
- Tap Save
Each entry is encrypted individually with AES-256-GCM and a unique salt.
Pull down on the vault view to reveal the search bar. Search works in real-time across all entry titles, usernames, and content.
All searching happens locally on your device—nothing is sent to any server.
- Tap on any entry to open it
- Edit fields as needed
- Tap Save to keep changes
- Tap Delete Entry at the bottom to remove it
Deleted entries are permanently removed—there's no trash or recovery option.
Security
OK Vault uses military-grade encryption and zero-trust architecture:
Your data is protected by the same encryption standards used by governments and militaries worldwide.
No. Your master password never leaves your device and is never stored anywhere. If you forget it, your vault cannot be unlocked.
This is by design—true security means we can't access your data even if we wanted to. We have no backdoors, no recovery mechanisms, and no master keys.
Write down your master password and store it securely in a safe, safety deposit box, or with a trusted family member. Create regular encrypted backups.
OK Vault prevents screenshots and screen recordings while the vault is unlocked. This protects your credentials from being captured by:
- Screenshot tools
- Screen recording apps
- System snapshots
- Clipboard history apps
- Productivity monitoring software
This is implemented using Apple's secure rendering APIs at the OS level.
In Settings, you can enable Wipe on Failure. If enabled, after 10 failed unlock attempts, your vault will be permanently erased. This prevents brute-force attacks if your device is stolen.
This is irreversible. Make sure you have an encrypted backup before enabling this feature. There is no way to recover wiped data.
Biometric authentication is handled entirely by Apple's LocalAuthentication framework. Your biometric data (fingerprints, facial data) never leaves the Secure Enclave on your device.
OK Vault only receives a success/failure response—we never see your actual biometric data. Your master password always works as a backup if biometric authentication fails.
Backup & Restore
- Open Settings (gear icon)
- Tap Export Vault
- Choose a strong export password (different from your master password)
- The app creates an encrypted
.vaultfile in your Documents folder
Create backups weekly or after major changes. Store backup files in multiple secure locations (encrypted USB drive, password manager, safe). Test your backups by importing them on another device.
- Open Settings (gear icon)
- Tap Import Vault
- Select your
.vaultfile - Enter the export password you used when creating it
- Entries will be merged into your current vault
Import merges data—it doesn't overwrite your existing vault. Duplicate entries may appear if you import the same backup multiple times.
Encrypted .vault files are saved to your device's Documents folder. You can:
- Share them via Files app
- Save to iCloud Drive (they're already encrypted)
- AirDrop to another device
- Email to yourself (they're encrypted)
- Store on a USB drive
Store backups securely and remember the export password! If you lose both your master password and your backup password, your data is unrecoverable.
Not automatically. OK Vault is designed as a zero-network app. You can manually transfer your vault using encrypted backups:
- Export vault on Device A
- Transfer
.vaultfile (AirDrop, Files app, etc.) - Import vault on Device B
This manual process ensures your data never touches the cloud or any external servers.
Troubleshooting
Unfortunately, there's no way to recover a forgotten master password. This is by design—true zero-trust security means we cannot access your vault.
Your options:
- If you have a backup: Wipe the app and import your backup
- If no backup: You'll need to wipe the vault and start fresh
Write down your master password and store it securely. Create regular encrypted backups. Consider storing your master password in a physical safe or safety deposit box.
- Try entering your master password manually
- Check if Face ID is enabled for OK Vault in Settings > Face ID & Passcode
- Restart your device
- Verify Face ID works in other apps
Your master password always works as a backup authentication method.
- Open Settings (if you can unlock)
- Go to Danger Zone
- Tap Wipe All Data
- Confirm the action
This will:
- Delete all entries permanently
- Reset the master password
- Return to onboarding screen
This action is irreversible. Make sure you have a backup before wiping.
- Force quit the app
- Restart your device
- Update to the latest iOS version
- Update to the latest OK Vault version
- If problem persists, contact support
Your encrypted data is safe—it's stored independently of the app's runtime state.
Technical Questions
Yes. OK Vault works perfectly offline. In fact, it works the same in airplane mode because it never uses the network.
Zero network requests means:
- ✅ Works without internet connection
- ✅ Works in airplane mode
- ✅ Works in secure facilities (SCIFs, server rooms)
- ✅ No data can leak over network
- ✅ Cannot be remotely compromised
